Like when Finn ran onto that electric platform, crashed through the glass, and jumped in the path of Lemongrab’s sound sword, did he think he was going to get a kiss for that? Was he doing this for a romantic reason? No! He did it to get a friend out of harm’s way, just like he did in ‘Daddy’s Little Monster’ when he put on the amulet to save Jake and Marcy. He’s the Candy Kingdom’s champion, just like Cinnamon Bun is to Flame Princess and Lemonhope was going to be for Lemongrab. He’s her friend, they fight, they go to one another with guidance and even when he’s not trying to “romance it up” Finn helps PB just because he’s a good guy helping out a friend. There’s more to their relationship than a shallow love affair. It’s the only place in Ooo he frequents aside from the Tree Fort, and he has a genuine friendship with the princess.

Throughout the series, the Candy Kingdom is often seen as Finn’s second home. At the very most, young Finn is just fond of an older, beautiful woman he hangs out with on a daily basis. In these first episodes of the series, there are little to no romantic feelings to be found between the two. We see Finn helping out the princess in the series’ first official episode, attending tea parties with her, and generally acting as her protector. No one his age builds a powerful infatuation for another like he has in the more recent seasons.įrom here, the two develop a pretty tight friendship. I mean, what twelve year old boy on this planet WOULDN’T blush when a pretty gal kisses him and calls him a hero? And speaking of that, he’s twelve.

Why do I think that? There’s two reasons:ġ) The blush doesn’t really mean anything. As for Finn, aside from blushing a bit, I don’t think he developed an immediate crush on PB. Now you guys don’t need me to tell you that this was obviously just a kiss of gratitude she gave Finn there were no underlying motives or romantic intentions behind it. Ignoring the fact that Finn is named “Pen” (damn Pendleton Ward and his self-insert), this was the episode where young 12-year-old Finn the Human first officially met Princess Bubblegum, and Jake connected with Lady Rainicorn.Īfter saving Princess Bubblegum from the Ice King, the princess refers to Finn as a brave knight, to which he says, “I’m not a knight, I’m a boy!” The princess corrects her ‘mistake’ and plants a kiss on Finn’s cheek. I like to think the pilot episode of ‘Adventure Time’ as a prequel for the whole show. If Finn’s romantic subplot develops any further (which it undoubtedly will) I will make a followup post Please note that this was written as of the airing of ‘Breezy’. Especially one that is as surprisingly well-written, mature, and realistic as Finn’s desperate search for a love life. To be completely honest, I prefer this show having a plot that advances the characters. I’m not going to bore/irritate you guys with complaints that the show has strayed from its random, sugar-rush roots of seasons 1 and 2.
